In a surprising development, Brandon Barash is stepping away from his role as Stefan DiMera on Days of Our Lives. Barash, who first took over the role in September 2018 after the departure of the late Tyler Christopher, has had a complex journey on the show, including a stint as Jake Lambert, another character who met an untimely end in 2022. Soon after, the show resurrected Stefan DiMera, and Barash resumed his original role.
In an interview with Soaps.com, Barash revealed that the decision to exit wasn’t his. “I knew exactly what was happening as soon as I was called up to [the boss’s] office,” he shared. “[She] said, ‘Look, this is not my doing… this is just where we’re deciding to take the character.’” Although Barash was in the middle of a contract, it was ultimately the writers’ choice to have Stefan exit Salem.
When asked if he would consider returning, Barash replied cautiously, “This is the second time this has happened… and, you know, it would have to be very, very right. The terms would have to be right… And I’ve lost that ability to trust that team, quite frankly.”
Barash's final episode airs on Monday, October 28th, but fans will still have a chance to see him at the Days of Days event on Saturday, November 2nd.
