After nearly two years on General Hospital, Evan Hofer (Dex Heller) has bid farewell to Port Charles. According to a General Hospital spokesperson via Soap Opera Digest (https://www.soapoperadigest.com/content/general-hospital-casting-shocker-evan-hofer-out-as-dex/), Hofer's departure was dictated by storyline direction, and his final air date aired on Friday, December 13th where Dex Heller is killed off.
A Memorable Run
Hofer joined the cast on May 5, 2022, in what was initially intended to be a short-term role. His portrayal of Dex Heller quickly resonated with fans and cast members alike, earning him a contract in September 2022. Throughout his tenure, Hofer shared many memorable scenes and forged strong relationships with his co-stars.
A Tribute From A Co-Star.
Tabyana Ali (Trina Robinson) expressed her heartfelt feelings about Hofer’s departure:
“I was really hurt when he told me [he was leaving]; I kind of got a little teary. I mean, I am so grateful to General Hospital for bringing him to me... Evan leaving really made me cry a little bit. We were sitting in his room and just kind of hugging and I was like, ‘Oh, no, what do I do?’”
Ali also reflected on the close friendships she has built on set, mentioning that their bond will extend beyond the show:
“We do still talk and we still hang out... It’s me, Evan, Avery [Pohl], Gio [Giovanni Mazza], and now we’re bringing Jens [Austin Astrup] into the situation. So, it’s sad for me, but because I get to see him outside of work, it’s not too sad.”
What’s Next for Hofer?
While it’s unclear where Hofer’s career will take him next, his talent and charisma ensure he won’t be off-screen for long. Fans and co-stars alike will undoubtedly miss his presence in Port Charles, but we wish him all the best in his future endeavors!
