Helen Gallagher, Beloved 'Ryan’s Hope' Star and Daytime Pioneer, Dies at 93

Helen Gallagher, the acclaimed Broadway and daytime television actress, has passed away at the age of 93 on Sunday, November 24th. Known for her 13-year portrayal of Maeve Hope on ABC’s Ryan’s Hope, Gallagher left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.

Gallagher’s storied career spanned over seven decades, collaborating with legendary choreographers such as Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins, and George Balanchine. Her exceptional talent earned her two Tony Awards and three Daytime Emmy Awards, the latter for her work on Ryan’s Hope in 1976, 1977, and 1988.

In a 1997 interview, Gallagher reflected fondly on Ryan’s Hope:

When Ryan’s Hope ended in 1989, Gallagher continued captivating audiences in other daytime roles, including Hannah Tuttle on Another World, Nurse Harris on All My Children, and Maude Boyland Hayes on One Life to Live.

Gallagher’s legacy as a trailblazer and cherished matriarch of daytime television lives on.
