The General Hospital star discusses working with Monaco on the final scenes.
General Hospital star Dominic Zamprogna opened up to Soap Opera Digest about his final scenes with Kelly Monaco, whose character, Sam, is leaving the show for now. Reflecting on those final moments, Zamprogna revealed, “My monologues were her last scenes, so we finished those scenes and I basically said goodbye to Kelly then and there.” He praised Monaco, saying, “She was amazing. Amazing, amazing, amazing.”
Dante and Sam, played by Zamprogna and Monaco, began their on-screen relationship in 2021. “You become fast friends with people that you work with like that,” Zamprogna noted, explaining how close-knit the GH cast and crew can become with their long hours and demanding schedules. “The three-and-a-half years that we were together on the show were a big, important time of my life and in my character’s life,” he shared, adding that he’s gotten to know Monaco “in a way that I’d never known her before.”
Now, while they no longer share scenes, Zamprogna still checks in on his former co-star weekly, and their friendship endures. As for whether this is truly goodbye, the actor leaves it open-ended, echoing a sentiment all soap fans know well: “It’s a soap! Who the heck knows what’s gonna happen?”
