Al Calderon Depart Days: Role To Be Recast
Another shakeup is coming to Salem. According to Deadline, Al Calderon is departing Days of Our Lives, and his role as Javi Hernandez will be recast.
Calderon, who made his debut on the Peacock series in October 2024, will remain on air through May 2026. A spokesperson for Days shared:
“We do not comment on the contract status of our actors, but fans should not worry — Javi is alive and well in Salem.”
While Calderon’s time in daytime is winding down, his career is moving full steam ahead. The bilingual actor, singer, and dancer is pivoting to primetime TV with a major new role on NBC’s Brilliant Minds.
Working alongside Zachary Quinto, Calderon plays charismatic Nurse Scotty Silva, who runs the hospital and has earned the nickname “Mayor of Bronx General.” With his humor, charm, and insider knowledge, Scotty knows just about everything about everyone at work.
Brilliant Minds, inspired by the life and work of author and neurologist Oliver Sacks, follows Dr. Oliver Wolf (Quinto) and his team of interns as they explore the mysteries of the human brain while navigating personal relationships and mental health struggles.
Soap fans will have time to say goodbye to Calderon on Days, and soon they can watch him in primetime as he trades Salem drama for medical intrigue.
