It's officially the end of the road for Ross Cullum on General Hospital, as actor Andrew Hawkes has wrapped his run on the ABC soap.

While fans watched Cullum's explosive storyline come to a dramatic conclusion, Hawkes revealed in a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest that the role grew far beyond what he originally expected.

"At first it was only supposed to be three episodes," Hawkes shared. "Then it was supposed to be six to eight episodes. And I think now, when all is said and done, I've done about 40 episodes!"

That's quite the jump for a character who quickly became one of Port Charles' most dangerous villains.

Looking back, Hawkes says the biggest takeaway wasn't just the screen time—it was the people.

"The way I look back at the whole experience, honestly, is that I just fell madly in love with the cast and crew. They're just incredible people, and I'm astonished by them and all the work that goes into putting the show together. When you're working with professionals who are really enjoying what they're doing and trying to do their best work, it's just the best feeling. You feel like you're on a team."

As for filming his final scenes, there wasn't much time to get emotional.

"We had a ton of stuff to get done and I had to stay very focused," he explained. "Whatever feelings I had at that point, it was really about just doing the work because I had a big day ahead of me. I couldn't really be like, 'Oh, I'm so sad!'"

Could this really be goodbye forever?

When asked if he'd ever return to General Hospital—whether as Ross Cullum's ghost or even as an entirely new character—Hawkes didn't hesitate.

"I'd say yes in a heartbeat."

In daytime soaps, fans know never to say never. Whether it's a surprise resurrection, a ghostly appearance, or a brand-new Port Charles resident, Hawkes has made it clear he'd gladly return if the opportunity came knocking.

For now, though, it's farewell to Ross Cullum—a villain whose story lasted much longer than expected and left a lasting impression on both viewers and the actor who brought him to life.
