BREAKING: Young And The Restless Head Writer Josh Griffith Is Stepping Down
According to TV Insider, seven-time Daytime Emmy-winning head writer Josh Griffith is stepping down from his role at the CBS daytime drama. The show's cast and crew were reportedly informed of the decision on June 26. Griffith will remain in the position for now while the show transitions, and no successor has been announced.
Griffith has had a lengthy association with The Young and the Restless. He initially joined the soap in 2006 as a writer and later took on the role of co-executive producer. After leaving in 2008 and making a brief return from 2012 to 2013, he transitioned to Days of Our Lives as co-head writer from 2015 to 2016.
He came back to Genoa City in 2018 as supervising producer. Following Mal Young's exit, Griffith was elevated to head writer in 2019 and subsequently assumed executive producer responsibilities in 2023. Last month, he resigned as executive producer, with Sally McDonald taking over the role, allowing Griffith to concentrate exclusively on writing.
Ironically, mere weeks before the news of his departure emerged, Griffith unveiled an ambitious lineup of stories for 2026.
"You've got to just keep that momentum going. It's going to be a very exciting, suspenseful, and romantic winter and spring. It's going to be jam-packed with intrigue, mystery, suspense, and love. We have some fun surprises up our sleeve for 2026."
Those stories are still expected to air, as Griffith remains with the show during the transition. However, CBS has not yet announced who will take over as head writer.
