Apparently, Carter Walton has discovered the secret to getting out of a gigantic mess: make the mess so ridiculously complicated that nobody can remember how it started.

Steffy is pregnant with Carter’s baby. Finn doesn’t know. Daphne doesn’t know. Steffy is drowning in guilt and finally wants to tell the truth. So naturally, Carter’s brilliant solution is… more lying. And not just your garden-variety soap lie. Oh, no. Carter has apparently decided that if you’re going to deceive your spouses, you might as well turn it into a full-blown reproductive conspiracy.
Daphne wants a baby. She and Carter have discussed using an egg donor and surrogate. Daphne wishes the process could involve someone they actually know and love. Cue Carter’s light bulb. Why doesn't Steffy simply pretend to be Daphne and Carter's egg donor and surrogate? Problem solved! Except for the approximately 47 new problems Carter just created.
Let's start with Daphne.
This woman considers Steffy her best friend. She's confiding in her about something deeply personal while having absolutely no idea that Steffy is already pregnant with her husband's child. And Carter's answer isn't to finally respect Daphne enough to tell her the truth. It's to convince her that her best friend has generously volunteered to carry their baby while secretly passing off Carter and Steffy's child as something Daphne knowingly agreed to create. That's not a solution.
That's a lie wearing maternity clothes.
Then there's Finn.
Poor Finn spent half the episode praising his marriage, telling Steffy how loyal and committed they are while Steffy practically dissolved into a puddle of guilt in front of him.
The woman was desperately trying to confess that she's pregnant with another man's child while Finn was basically delivering a Hallmark speech about their everlasting love. Painful. But at least Steffy finally seemed ready to rip off the Band-Aid. Then Finn's pager went off. And before Steffy could probably even process what happened, Carter came strolling through the door like the patron saint of terrible ideas.
His pitch? Don't tell Finn. Don't tell Daphne. Just pretend Steffy volunteered to be their surrogate and egg donor. What could go wrong?
EVERYTHING, CARTER. EVERYTHING.
What happens when Finn starts asking questions? What happens when doctors get involved? What happens when Daphne starts planning for the baby she believes Steffy is carrying specifically for her? What happens when Steffy's pregnancy timeline starts raising eyebrows? And here's the biggest question: What happens when the truth eventually comes out? Because this is The Bold and the Beautiful. The truth is coming out.
Carter isn't preventing an explosion. He's stuffing more dynamite into the building. Worse, Steffy has already told him this secret is destroying her. She doesn't want another cover story. She wants honesty. Instead of listening to her, Carter essentially says, Great news! I've figured out how you can lie to your husband for the entire pregnancy!
Sir. No. The irony is that Carter apparently believes he's protecting everybody. He isn't. He's protecting the secret. There's a difference. Daphne deserves to know what happened before she starts dreaming about raising this baby. Finn deserves to know before he's asked to support his wife through a pregnancy he believes is a generous gift to another couple. And Steffy deserves the opportunity to stop waking up every morning wondering which lie she has to tell next.
Carter's scheme might buy them some time. But that's all it buys. Because instead of four adults dealing with one painful truth now, Carter wants four adults dealing with 47 lies, one baby, and the mother of all betrayals later. Great plan, counselor.
Absolutely no notes. Except maybe one: TELL. THE. TRUTH.
