On the August 27 episode of The Young and the Restless, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) finally gave in to temptation—and many fans immediately reached for the fast-forward button.

What began as playful banter over drinks about their marketing campaign quickly turned steamy. Victoria promised to knock the swagger out of Kyle, he accused her of underestimating him, and seconds later they were kissing passionately. The clothes came off, Kyle locked the office door, and the deed was done—right there at Jabot.

Afterward, Victoria gasped, “Wow, that was, uh…” while Kyle replied, “Yep.” They blamed the alcohol and agreed it should be a one-time mistake, despite admitting it was “pretty great.”

Viewers, however, weren’t celebrating.

Kyle was married to Victoria’s niece, Summer, and later had a serious relationship with Victoria’s daughter, Claire. Now he has slept with Claire’s mother. Fans have called the pairing “gross,” “disgusting,” “icky” and another example of Y&R recycling romantic partners through the same family.

The age difference isn’t even the biggest problem. Amelia Heinle is 53, while Michael Mealor is 41. It’s Kyle’s history with both Summer and Claire that makes the hookup feel especially inappropriate.

Viewers also aren’t interested in another May-December romance after Noah and Sienna—made even stranger by Lucas Adams and Tamara Braun previously playing son and mother on Days of Our Lives.

Victoria is supposed to be an intelligent, professional, and savvy businesswoman. Instead, fans say she was written like a “horny teenager” who forgot she was inside her daughter’s former boyfriend’s workplace.
