Kirkland’s representative, Michael Greene, confirmed that the 83-year-old star is in hospice at a hospital in Palm Springs, after having lived with dementia for the past year. Her close friend and former student, Cody Galloway, remains by her side offering comfort and support.
Kirkland — a Golden Globe–winning actress for her role in the 1987 film Anna — has been dealing with “life-threatening infections,” according to a GoFundMe page (link) started by friends to raise funds for her urgent medical care needs.
The fundraiser explains that the actress recently fell in the shower when she was left unattended, suffering rib and foot injuries along with cuts and bruises. The GoFundMe page emphasizes her urgent need for medical assistance and continued care.
Soap fans will fondly remember Kirkland’s 1999 recurring role as Tracey Simpson on Days of Our Lives. Her extensive career spans film, television, and theater, with standout performances in The Sting, Private Benjamin, The Player, and JFK, along with guest appearances on beloved series including Roseanne and Murder, She Wrote.
