Legendary actress Sally Kirkland, known for her fearless performances and magnetic presence on screen, has passed away at the age of 84. Her representative, Michael Greene, confirmed that the Oscar-nominated actress died on Tuesday, November 11, while in hospice care in Palm Springs, California.

With a career spanning over sixty years, Kirkland built an impressive résumé in film, television, and theater. She appeared in acclaimed movies such as The Way We Were, The Sting, Revenge, JFK, and EDtv. Her performance in the 1987 independent film Anna earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, a Golden Globe win, and an Independent Spirit Award, cementing her legacy in Hollywood.

Kirkland also received a Golden Globe nomination for the 1991 television film The Haunted and delivered compelling performances in stage productions like Terrence McNally’s Sweet Eros, showcasing her raw talent and emotional depth.


From Warhol's Inspiration to Soap Opera Actress

Kirkland, a key figure in New York's 1960s avant-garde scene, was recognized as one of Andy Warhol’s “13 Most Beautiful Women” in 1964. Her bohemian spirit and artistic boldness defined the era. Kirkland had a recurring role as Tracey Simpson on NBC’s Days of Our Lives. Her tenure coincided with the storyline where Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) was falsely accused of Franco Kelly's (Victor Alfieri) murder and received a death sentence.
