On November 8, 1965, NBC premiered a little soap opera that would go on to become one of daytime television’s most enduring dramas. Days of Our Lives made history as the first daytime series to be broadcast in color, and almost six decades later, it is still delivering the drama in Salem.

Days Of Our Lives Celebrates Nearly 60 Years With Major Honors, Reunion, And Cast Memories

To celebrate the milestone, Today welcomed three of the soap’s biggest stars: Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans), who will soon mark 50 years on the show, James Reynolds (Abe Carver), who has played Salem’s moral compass for 44 years, and Eric Martsolf (Brady Black), who joined the show 17 years ago.

“It’s Such a Home. It’s a Family.”

Reflecting on the longevity of Days, Deidre Hall said, “None of us ever imagined being here. But it’s so good and we love it. It’s such a home. We talk about family. It’s a family.”

Reynolds agreed, noting that the cast and crew have been through everything together. “The term ‘legendary’ and ‘icon’ suits our program at this point,” he said. “We take it very seriously. Like Deidre said, we are family.”

A Reunion for the Ages

The trio teased a massive upcoming reunion storyline this November centered around a hospital gala. While they joked that “not the dead” would be returning, they promised plenty of familiar faces from throughout the decades, a treat for longtime viewers and new fans eager to learn more of Salem’s history.

Hall of Fame Recognition

Adding to the celebration, Days of Our Lives is being inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame, cementing its place as one of television’s most legendary programs.

Trivia & Nostalgia

The actors also fielded some fun soap trivia. Hall recalled being possessed twice, in 1994–95 and again in 2021, with the first time occurring while “Silent Night” played on Christmas Eve. Martsolf was quizzed about Brady’s dramatic jailhouse confrontation with Kristen, while Reynolds remembered his time as a victim of the Salem Stalker, trapped on “Melaswen Island” (New Salem spelled backwards) before returning home, blind.

The Legacy Continues

With more than 15,000 episodes under its belt, Days of Our Lives continues to balance timeless family storytelling with topical issues, ensuring its relevance across generations. As Hall, Reynolds, and Martsolf made clear, the heart of Salem is family, both on and off screen.
