During an episode of the That’s Awesome Podcast with Bradford Anderson, the conversation turned to the importance of understanding a daytime character’s history. The co-hosts discussed how challenging it can be for recasts when they aren’t fully aware of their character’s past or relationships.
“It’s important,” Burton declared. “Knowing the history is important.”
Burton then revealed that he recently filmed scenes with a new male cast member.
“So, there’s a guy on the show right now who came on the show, and you guys will see him,” Burton teased, adding that he wasn’t sure whether the actor’s first appearance had aired yet.
“I had some scenes with him—I can’t say what it is yet—but I said, ‘Do you know exactly what’s happening?’”
According to Burton, the actor admitted, “I don’t really know what’s really happened.”
Burton explained that the mystery performer isn’t new to the business.
“He’s been an actor for a long, long time,” Burton said. “He’s been on some prime-time shows. He’s done this a long time.”
Burton offered to explain the characters’ history and why their scenes were important.
“I said, ‘Do you mind if I just tell you kind of, you know, what this is, who this is, why they’re doing it, and what the involvement for me is?’ And he goes, ‘No, I would love [for you] to.’”
Burton didn’t identify the actor or confirm that he is replacing anyone. However, the timing of the revelation—during a discussion about recasts and character history—certainly raises questions.
The newcomer could be taking over an established role, portraying a returning character with a new face or playing someone deeply connected to Jason Morgan’s past.
