Eric Braeden Opens Up About Beyond The Gates and Young and the Restless Crossover: "It's About Time"
At the center of the crossover is legendary businessman Victor Newman, played by Eric Braeden, who travels to Atlanta at the invitation of his longtime friend Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis). In the storyline, Victor and Vernon share a history that stretches back years. Victor has supported Vernon's political campaigns, while Vernon has championed legislation favorable to Newman Enterprises. Now, Vernon is calling in a favor, asking Victor to deliver the keynote address at a political fundraiser for Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon).
Speaking with TV Insider, Braeden revealed that accepting the opportunity to appear on Beyond the Gates was an easy decision. "Danielle Unger [Vice President of Current Programming at CBS] asked me, and I like and respect her, and I said, 'OK,'" Braeden shared. "I think a Black soap is sorely needed; it's about time, so I said, 'Let's go.'"
The daytime icon also admitted that despite his decades of experience, there is still one aspect of acting that can create pressure. "No nerves at all," Braeden explained regarding filming the crossover episodes. "The only thing that every actor has nerves about is when he has to learn all the dialogue. But I trust it by now. I trust myself by now, and that is really the only thing that I'm concerned about: get it done and do it as believably as one can."
Braeden's appearance is just the beginning of an exciting crossover event that will bring several familiar Genoa City faces to Fairmont Crest. Fans can also look forward to appearances from Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott), Michael Mealor (Kyle Abbott), Bryton James (Devon Winters), Susan Walters (Diane Jenkins Abbott), and Melissa Ordway (Abby Newman) as the worlds of The Young and the Restless and Beyond the Gates collide.
With two powerhouse daytime dramas joining forces, viewers can expect unexpected alliances, political maneuvering, family drama, and plenty of must-see moments when the crossover event kicks off on June 9.
