General Hospital Star Steve Burton Takes Ex-Wife Sheree Gustin Back to Court Over Daughter’s Custody

Steve Burton wants his daughter by his side at the Daytime Emmy Awards, but the General Hospital star claims his ex-wife, Sheree Gustin, is standing in the way. Now, he's asking a judge to intervene.

According to TMZ, which broke the news on October 23, 2026, Burton has filed new court documents seeking additional parenting time with his 12-year-old daughter, Brooklyn.

The actor, best known for playing Jason Morgan on General Hospital, says he wants to bring Brooklyn to the Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday, October 30, where he is nominated.

However, Burton alleges that Gustin refuses to exchange custody days to accommodate the special occasion.

Steve Burton Wants His Daughter at the Daytime Emmys

For Burton, the upcoming awards ceremony could be a memorable father-daughter experience.

But according to the newly reported court filings, the actor says his request for a scheduling adjustment has been rejected.

Burton reportedly believes the disagreement is another example of his ex-wife's unwillingness to cooperate when it comes to co-parenting.

Rather than allow the dispute to continue, the soap veteran is turning to the courts for help securing more parenting time.

Their Custody Battle Continues

Unfortunately, this isn't the first disagreement between Burton and Gustin over their daughter.

The former couple has also been involved in a dispute concerning Gustin's plans to relocate Brooklyn from California to Tennessee.

Burton maintains that he returned to California, purchased a home, and committed to General Hospital after being led to believe Gustin would remain in Orange County.

Gustin, however, has challenged his position.

She argues that Burton's previous moves should not automatically entitle him to additional parenting time. She has also raised concerns about his demanding work schedule.

Gustin has disputed allegations concerning her feelings toward Burton's current wife, Michelle, as well.

A Difficult Chapter After 23 Years of Marriage

Burton and Gustin's marriage ended after more than two decades together.

The actor filed for divorce in 2022, and their divorce was finalized in December 2023.

Since then, their disagreements over parenting arrangements have continued to make headlines.

With the Daytime Emmys approaching, Burton hopes the court will intervene so Brooklyn can accompany him to one of daytime television's biggest celebrations.

For now, the latest accusations remain Burton's claims, and no ruling on his new request has been confirmed.

Whether father and daughter will attend the October 30 ceremony together remains to be seen.
