Fans of the groundbreaking NBC daytime drama Generations just received the biggest update in decades — and it came straight from one of its brightest stars.

Generations Reboot Buzz: Jonelle Allen Reveals New Revival Plans

During a lively conversation on Soapy, hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart, legendary actress Jonelle Allen revealed that series creator Sally Sussman is actively developing a Generations reboot.

And the best part? Several iconic cast members want to be part of it.

A Revival Years in the Making

Allen enthusiastically shared that she, along with Kelly Rutherford (ex-Sam) and Bob Torti (ex-Kyle), is eager to join the new version. She teased that “other actors from the original cast” are already discussing their involvement — signaling a true ensemble comeback if the project moves forward. For longtime fans, this is a stunning development. The original series, which aired from 1990 to 1991, has remained a cult favorite thanks to its bold storytelling and progressive approach to representation.

Why Generations Still Matter

When Generations premiered, it made television history by becoming the first daytime soap to debut with a core Black family — the Marshalls. It also introduced viewers to breakout talent, most notably the late Kristoff St. John, who portrayed Adam Marshall before moving on to his Emmy-winning, legacy-defining role as Neil Winters on The Young and the Restless.

The series is remembered for pushing boundaries and for unforgettable moments — none more iconic than the explosive catfight between Maya Reubens, played by Vivica A. Fox, and Jonelle Allen’s Doreen Jackson. Even 25 years after the show ended, that scene remains one of daytime’s most famous clashes.

Allen’s Interview: Nostalgia, Legacy & Hope for the Future

On Soapy, Allen took viewers on a walk down memory lane, reflecting on her time on the series as well as the lasting impact Generations had on the soap genre. Her excitement about the revival was palpable — and her comments strongly suggest that a reboot is no longer just “wishful thinking,” but an active project with momentum behind it.

Fans can watch the full interview with Budig and Rikaart to hear Allen’s stories firsthand, including her memories of the original run and her hopes for what the new incarnation could bring to today’s daytime landscape.
