Have The Y&R Writers Gone Too Far With Victor Newman’s Kidnapping Plot?
Eric Braeden (Victor Newman)

Fans of The Young and the Restless are used to shocking twists, elaborate schemes, and larger-than-life drama. But the latest storyline involving Victor Newman has some viewers asking a serious question: have the writers finally pushed things too far?

Have The Y&R Writers Gone Too Far With Victor Newman’s Kidnapping Plot?

Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) has always been ruthless when it comes to protecting his family and his empire. Over the years, he’s manipulated business deals, framed enemies, and played puppet master across Genoa City. But the current storyline raises the stakes to an entirely new level — with multiple kidnappings unfolding at the same time.

The first shocking development: Victor’s alleged scheme to engineer a fake kidnapping involving Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) and her children as part of a manipulation aimed at Cane Ashby(Billy Flynn). The goal? To pressure Cane into returning control of Chancellor Industries. That has stalled (the actress was on maternity leave, but has returned. We'll be seeing her soon).

A Second Kidnapping Plot? As if that weren’t enough, Victor’s alleged scheme may go even further. On March 5th, Jack Abbott (Peter Berman) wakes up groggy inside a cabin on a yacht somewhere at sea, clearly being held against his will. The situation quickly escalates into a full-blown hostage crisis as Jack struggles to figure out how he ended up there — and who is really behind it. Given Victor’s long-standing feud with Jack, it doesn’t take long for fingers to start pointing toward the Newman patriarch.

Where Are the Police?

Perhaps the most frustrating element for viewers isn’t just the extreme nature of Victor’s schemes — it’s the reaction from everyone else. Despite the severity of the situation, no one seems to be calling the police. Instead, characters are negotiating with Victor. For many fans, the absence of law enforcement makes the entire storyline feel increasingly unrealistic, even for a soap opera known for its over-the-top drama.

A Risky Direction for the Show

Victor Newman has always walked the line between antihero and villain. His ruthless tactics often create compelling drama, but there’s a difference between corporate manipulation and full-scale kidnapping plots. Some longtime viewers now worry that the writers may have pushed the character too far — turning him into someone who commits serious crimes without consequences.

The Fan Reaction

The storyline has sparked heated debate among fans. While some appreciate the heightened drama, others feel the plot stretches credibility beyond its breaking point. After all, when characters ignore obvious solutions like calling the police and instead rely on increasingly convoluted schemes, it can make even devoted viewers question the writing.

And as some frustrated fans joke, this may not be the storyline that earns The Young and the Restless a Daytime Emmy this season.
