It’s no secret that The Young and the Restless couple Claire Grace and Kyle Abbott have captured the hearts of fans—and the approval of nearly everyone in Genoa City… except for one man: Victor Newman.
Hayley Erin And Michael Mealor On Claire and Kyle
In a recent Soap Opera Digest interview, actors Hayley Erin (Claire) and Michael Mealor (Kyle) opened up about the fun—and tension—behind Victor’s icy reception to their characters’ relationship and what might come next.
"Yeah, Claire is convinced that it’s going to work, that’s for sure," Mealor said of Claire’s plan to change Victor’s mind. "Kyle is anything but convinced, which makes for fun storytelling, because you have these two people that love each other, and one is so far on one side of the fence and one is so far on the other. He knows Victor very well… when Victor makes up his mind, it’s in stone."
Mealor teased that Kyle is working on a unique way to show his love and commitment to Claire, even if convincing Victor seems like a long shot. While there isn’t a fully formed plan just yet, Erin shared that Claire is all in on the idea that something—some gesture—will win her grandfather over.
“She’s had a history of manipulation—and I think not even in a negative sense of the word,” Erin explained. “She’s just convinced that you can make people feel a certain way about things. So from her point of view, it’s only a matter of time before they change Victor’s mind. But it’s definitely her perspective alone,” she laughed.
Beyond the fictional drama, both actors gushed about working with the iconic Eric Braeden, who brings Victor to life. Erin revealed a personal connection: "My lineage is from Germany, and because Eric is from Germany too, it was such a great topic to discuss. I figured out where my family had originally come from, and it turns out it’s a stone’s throw away from where he grew up. So now every time he sees me, we joke about how we could really be related!”
Mealor added that Braeden is a joy to work with: “He’s always up for a good joke… when you get him laughing, and he can’t stop, it’s the greatest feeling in the world. It’s like making babies smile. It’s so much fun.”
With Claire convinced Victor can be swayed, and Kyle ready to step up in a bold new way, fans can expect some compelling developments in the weeks ahead. But will The Moustache budge?
