Well, that definitely wasn’t the answer Deacon was hoping for!

I Don’t! Taylor Turns Down Deacon’s Proposal

Taylor basically told Deacon, “I love you, but put that ring away!” 😬

Deacon gets down on one knee at the cliff house, and Taylor’s jaw practically hits the floor. He doesn’t understand why she’s so surprised, but Taylor clearly wasn’t expecting their relationship to head toward marriage this quickly.

She loves Deacon. She loves that they’re happy together. She even loves that there’s no Brooke drama hanging over their relationship. But marriage? Taylor doesn’t see the point.

In fact, she thinks getting married at their age could be ridiculous. Considering both of their romantic histories, Taylor worries that putting a ring on things could actually screw up something that’s working perfectly fine.

Deacon obviously takes that hard.

He reminds Taylor that he divorced Sheila because he believed they were building a future together. Now he’s wondering whether ending his marriage was somehow a mistake.

But Taylor shuts that idea down pretty quickly. She wanted Deacon divorced because she wanted Sheila out of their lives — and because she wasn’t going to date a married man. That didn’t mean she was waiting for her own turn to become Mrs. Sharpe.

Taylor even admits that maybe if they were 20 years younger, she’d feel differently. At this point in her life, though, she doesn’t need another marriage to prove that what she and Deacon have is real.

Deacon eventually says he understands. They can be together without getting married.

Still… you KNOW that rejection had to sting.

Deacon went into this expecting a romantic engagement and walked away basically agreeing, “Okay, we don’t need to get married.” That’s quite the emotional turnaround!

The bigger question is whether he actually means it. Taylor seems perfectly happy keeping things exactly as they are, but Deacon clearly pictured something more permanent.
