Is Devon Winters About to Snap? How Dominic's Kidnapping Changed Him Forever

Is Devon Winters About to Snap? How Dominic's Kidnapping Changed Him Forever
Bryton James (Devon Winters)

Devon Winters has always been known as one of Genoa City's more thoughtful and level-headed men. Whether running a business, supporting his family, or navigating complicated relationships, Devon typically approached situations with patience and reason. But after the kidnapping of his son, Dominic Winters, something fundamentally changed.

Is Devon Winters About to Snap? How Dominic's Kidnapping Changed Him Forever

The traumatic ordeal left emotional scars that have yet to heal, and those closest to him are beginning to recognize that the man they once knew is disappearing.

When Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) abducted Dominic Winters (Ethan Ray Clark), Devon experienced every parent's worst nightmare. Although Mariah's actions were tied to a severe mental health crisis, that explanation has never erased the terror Devon endured. While he initially agreed that Mariah needed psychiatric treatment, his perspective shifted when her plea agreement allowed her to enter a mental health facility instead of serving prison time.

To Devon, justice was never truly served. Instead of finding closure, he watched the woman who kidnapped his son avoid what he believed were meaningful consequences. Since then, his outlook has become increasingly rigid. The easygoing music executive has transformed into someone who questions motives, expects the worst from people, and rarely extends the benefit of the doubt.

Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) has noticed the difference. She believes her brother hasn't been the same since Dominic's kidnapping and suspects the trauma—not business—is driving his behavior. Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn), however, has a different interpretation. He believes Devon's role as CEO and his overwhelming need to protect his family have intensified since the kidnapping. In Cane's eyes, Devon now feels personally responsible for preventing another tragedy from ever happening.

That theory gained even more credibility after Holden Novak (Nathan Owens) described a recent encounter with Devon. According to Holden, he simply tried to strike up a conversation, only for Devon to immediately lose his temper. Cane wasn't surprised. Instead, he seemed to view Devon's explosive reaction as further proof that he's carrying emotional baggage he hasn't processed.

Perhaps the most telling sign is what's happening at home. Devon's marriage to Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) is reportedly under increasing strain because of the lingering fallout surrounding Mariah. Abby finds herself caught between her longtime relationship with Mariah and her loyalty to her husband. Devon, meanwhile, refuses to let go of the pain the kidnapping caused, creating an emotional divide that continues to grow.

No one can blame Devon for being traumatized. Having your child taken away is an experience no parent should ever endure, and the emotional effects don't simply disappear because the crisis ends. The problem isn't that Devon is still hurting—it's that his hurt appears to be dictating nearly every aspect of his life.

His anger has become his default response. His distrust has become second nature. His need for control seems stronger than ever.

Those aren't necessarily the actions of a villain. They're often the signs of someone carrying unresolved trauma. But if Devon continues allowing that trauma to define his relationships, he risks pushing away the very people he's trying to protect.

The question now isn't whether Dominic's kidnapping changed Devon.

It clearly did. The real question is whether Devon can confront his emotional wounds before they consume him completely. If he can't, his growing resentment could cost him his marriage, damage important friendships, create new enemies, and ultimately turn him into someone he never intended to become.

For Devon Winters, the greatest threat may no longer be Mariah Copeland or anyone else. It may be the anger he refuses to let go.
