Is It Time for Brook Lynn to Walk Away From Chase?

Brook Lynn Quartermaine and Harrison Chase have survived plenty together on General Hospital, but their latest argument exposed something that may be far more difficult to repair than any disagreement over where they should live.
Trust.
Brook Lynn wants to move out of the Quartermaine mansion and find a place where she, Chase, and Phoebe can build a life of their own. Chase, however, is digging in his heels.
And after what he admitted at the boathouse, Brook Lynn may finally be wondering whether she should stop fighting so hard for a marriage in which her husband seems to expect the worst from her.
Is It Time for Brook Lynn to Walk Away From Chase?
Michael Gives Brook Lynn Some Unwanted Advice
Things were already tense when Chase arrived at the boathouse and found Brook Lynn arguing with Michael.
Michael clearly had plenty to say about Brook Lynn's situation with Chase, but before Chase could get the full story, Michael received a call from the doctor in Germany and had to leave.
That left Brook Lynn to explain that Michael had simply been offering some unsolicited advice.
But Michael's words may stick with her.
He essentially encouraged Brook Lynn to stop trying to protect Chase from his own decisions and let him make his own mistakes.
Considering what Chase said moments later, Brook Lynn may decide Michael had a point.
Chase Refuses to Leave the Quartermaine Mansion
Brook Lynn once again suggested that she and Chase get their own place.
On the surface, her request doesn't seem unreasonable.
Their marriage is struggling. They're surrounded by Brook Lynn's family, and every disagreement risks becoming another Quartermaine family affair.
Why wouldn't a fresh start help?
Chase doesn't see it that way.
He believes they need to work through their problems right where they are, surrounded by the family that's already part of their lives. To Chase, moving would simply mean running away from their issues.
Brook Lynn wasn't buying that explanation.
She pushed Chase for the real reason he didn't want to move.
And she got an answer she probably wasn't prepared to hear.
Chase's Real Fear Changes Everything
Chase admitted that he doesn't want to rent another house because he's afraid he could come home one day and discover Brook Lynn and Phoebe gone.
Even worse, Chase fears Brook Lynn could then claim he abandoned them because he was the one who rented the house.
That's a pretty devastating thing to hear from your husband.
Brook Lynn couldn't believe Chase thought she was capable of doing something like that.
Then Chase brought Tracy into it, suggesting Brook Lynn's grandmother could potentially convince her to make such a move.
And suddenly this wasn't an argument about real estate anymore.
It was an argument about whether Chase trusts his own wife.
Can Brook Lynn Get Past That Accusation?
Brook Lynn's response said almost everything that needed to be said.
“It's good to know where we stand.”
Then she walked away.
Chase may argue that he's simply protecting himself. Given how complicated their situation has become, perhaps he believes he has reason to be cautious.
But there's a major difference between being cautious and believing your spouse might deliberately manipulate a custody situation against you.
Brook Lynn now knows that possibility has crossed Chase's mind.
How is she supposed to forget that?
Even if they stay together, every future disagreement involving Phoebe could now carry that suspicion underneath it.
That's not exactly a strong foundation for rebuilding a marriage.
Maybe Michael Was Right
Michael's advice takes on a different meaning after Brook Lynn's confrontation with Chase.
Perhaps Brook Lynn needs to stop trying to convince Chase.
If he doesn't want to move, don't force him. If he believes staying at the Quartermaine mansion is the only way to protect himself, let him make that choice. And if Chase truly believes Brook Lynn might take Phoebe and use their living arrangement against him, maybe Brook Lynn needs to ask herself why she's fighting so desperately to save something that has reached this level of distrust.
That doesn't necessarily mean she should immediately end the marriage.
But it may mean Chase needs to be the one fighting for it for a change.
Is It Time for Brook Lynn to Walk Away?
There are plenty of reasons to understand Chase's frustration.
He's dealing with a complicated family situation, a marriage under enormous pressure, and fears about his future with Phoebe. But Brook Lynn has fears too.
She wants security. She wants her family. And she wants a husband who believes they're actually on the same team. Instead, she just learned that Chase is contemplating a scenario where she takes Phoebe and essentially sets him up to look like an abandoning father.
That's not a small misunderstanding. That's a fundamental breakdown in trust.
Maybe Brook Lynn and Chase can repair it. Maybe Chase will realize just how deeply his words hurt his wife and find a way to reassure her.
But Brook Lynn shouldn't be the only one doing the work. After hearing what Chase really thinks could happen, perhaps it's finally time for Brook Lynn to take Michael's advice and let Chase make his own mistakes.
The bigger question is whether losing Brook Lynn will become one of them.
