It’s officially the end of the road for Marco Rios in Port Charles.

IT’S A WRAP! Adrian J Anchondo Exits General Hospital — Marco Rios Dies A Hero

Adrian J. Anchondo has wrapped his run on General Hospital, confirming in an interview with TV Insider that his final day on set was March 25. Anchondo first appeared as Marco in March 2025, quickly carving out a place in the canvas with a character defined by inner conflict, loyalty, and ultimately, sacrifice.

A Departure He Saw Coming

While the actor gave his all to the role, he admits he had a sense his time might be limited. “Around August [2025], there were some signs and some speculations online,” Anchondo shared. “I tried to ignore them, but it did make me feel like it was less a question of if and more of when and how it would happen. ”Rather than dwell on uncertainty, Anchondo focused on the work. “All I could do is be kind and giving to the people I worked with… It’s not really about me. It’s about the story, and the story is more important than any one actor.”

A Shocking — Yet Fitting — Ending

Marco’s final arc delivered both shock and emotional payoff.

After being exposed for stealing medication for Britt Westbourne, Marco’s journey took a deadly turn when he was stabbed by Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes). In his final moments, Marco ultimately became a hero — saving Britt and Lucas Jones before succumbing to his injuries. For Anchondo, the ending felt right. “When I got the script, I was like, ‘This is really powerful. This makes sense. This is a beautiful way to end Marco,’” he said. “He got to go out a hero… it was nice to go out with a bang.”

An Emotional Final Day on Set

Filming Marco’s exit proved to be just as intense behind the scenes as it was on screen. The actor shot multiple key moments — including the stabbing, Marco being found in Alexis Davis’ office, and the emotional surgery sequence — all in a single, demanding day. “It was a very long day of shooting and a lot of hours in makeup,” Anchondo recalled. Though his character had few lines in the final scenes, the emotional weight was undeniable as his co-stars delivered powerful performances around him. “Van [Hansis] had a monologue over my body. Carlo [Rota] had a monologue over my body, and I had to pretend like I couldn’t breathe because I’m dead,” he shared. “But the tears were flowing… it was just so sad.”

A Role That Meant More

Beyond the storyline, Anchondo emphasized how meaningful the role of Marco Rios was on a deeper level. “My time was just so special,” he reflected. “I really want to thank Frank Valentini and Mark Teschner for taking a chance on me and bringing such a unique character to daytime.” Marco stood out as a multi-dimensional queer Latino character — representation that resonated strongly with viewers. “It just felt so important to be seen and represented,” Anchondo said. “I couldn’t believe the amount of messages I received from fans just thanking me for showing multi-dimensions in a queer character.”

A Hero’s Legacy in Port Charles

Though his time on General Hospital has come to an end, Marco Rios leaves behind a legacy rooted in redemption, courage, and heart.

In a town full of secrets and shifting loyalties, Marco’s final act proved one thing — sometimes, even the most flawed characters can become heroes in the end.
