Jack Abbott and Diane Jenkins may think they’ve finally figured out how to beat Patty Williams at her own game, but there’s one big problem with their plan: Patty isn’t just another Genoa City villain they can outsmart and send packing.

On The Young and the Restless, Jack just pulled off one heck of a performance at Society. One minute, he was standing there, and the next, he was clutching his chest and collapsing while Billy called an ambulance, Kyle scrambled to help, and Diane went into full panic mode.
Everyone bought it.
Honestly, Jack deserves an Emmy for that performance. But the whole thing was a setup. Jack and Diane arranged the fake medical emergency with Burrow and some off-duty paramedics as part of their plan to lure Patty out. Jack is convinced Patty needs closure so badly that she won't be able to resist the bait. Maybe he's right. But what happens after Patty takes it?
Patty's Obsession With Jack Has Never Really Been About Logic
That's the problem Jack keeps overlooking. You can't necessarily reason your way out of an obsession that was never reasonable in the first place.
Jack seems to believe there is an ending to all of this. Patty shows up, they confront her, she gets whatever "closure" she's searching for, and Jack and Diane finally move forward with their lives. Except Patty's history with Jack has never worked that way.
For Patty, Jack isn't simply an ex or somebody who hurt her decades ago. He's wrapped up in years of pain, rejection, anger, obsession and fantasy. Every time you think that chapter has been slammed shut, somehow somebody finds the key and opens the book again.
That's why Jack's plan feels less like an ending and more like another invitation.
He's giving Patty exactly what she wants: Jack Abbott's attention.

Diane's Reaction Should Be Jack's Warning
The most telling part of this entire scheme wasn't Jack collapsing at Society.
It was Diane afterward.
Diane admitted that watching Jack fake another medical crisis took her straight back to the night she found him bleeding on the floor. Then a tray crashed nearby and Diane practically jumped out of her skin because, for one terrifying second, she thought Patty had already found them.
That's not someone who feels safe. Jack can reassure Diane all he wants, but her reaction tells us something important: Patty has already gotten inside their marriage without even being in the room.
Diane is waiting for the next attack. She's wondering how many times they're going to survive this before Patty finally succeeds.
And frankly, that's a pretty reasonable question.
Jack Is Making One Dangerous Assumption
Jack believes Patty will behave exactly the way he expects her to behave.
That might be the biggest mistake of all. He believes Patty needs closure. He believes she'll take the bait. He believes he and Diane are safe while they wait for her to make her move. That's an awful lot of confidence when you're dealing with someone whose greatest weapon has always been unpredictability.
Jack and Diane may have successfully fooled everyone at Society, but fooling Patty is an entirely different game. What if Patty knows it's a trap?
What if she takes the bait but doesn't react the way Jack expects? Or worse, what if Jack's stunt doesn't give Patty closure at all and instead reignites her fixation on him? That's the danger nobody seems to be talking about.
Jack and Diane Can Beat Patty—but Can They Ever Escape Her?
They may catch Patty. They may expose her. They may even send her away again. But being physically separated from Patty and being free of Patty are two very different things. Diane jumping at that crashing tray proves it. As long as Jack and Diane are wondering whether Patty could return, whether she's watching them or whether another attack is coming, Patty still has power over them. And that's what makes this story more interesting than a simple trap-the-villain plot.
Jack thinks he's setting a trap for Patty. But emotionally, Patty may have already trapped Jack and Diane. Every scheme they make revolves around her. Every strange noise makes Diane wonder whether she's nearby. Every decision Jack makes is based on predicting what Patty wants next.
Who is really controlling whom here? Jack and Diane's wildly delicious con may work perfectly. Patty may walk straight into their trap and give them exactly the victory they're hoping for. But I wouldn't start celebrating yet.
Because if there's one thing Y&R history has taught us, it's that Patty Williams has a way of becoming Jack Abbott's unfinished business. And until Jack realizes that Patty's obsession isn't something he can neatly wrap up with one clever scheme, he and Diane may never truly be free of her.
