General Hospital is adding a familiar face with major star power! Jonathan Bennett is officially joining the ABC soap in a brand-new role that’s already sparking buzz.

Bennett, best known for playing heartthrob Aaron Samuels in the iconic 2004 film Mean Girls, is set to debut as Joe Fitzpatrick this May. While many recognize Bennett from his film and primetime work, longtime soap viewers may remember that General Hospital isn’t his first time in daytime. The actor got his start on All My Children, where he portrayed JR Chandler between 2001 and 2002, taking over the role after Jesse McCartney during the character’s rapid aging storyline. Now, Bennett is returning to his roots—this time stepping into Port Charles with what could be a game-changing role.
Executive producer Frank Valentini shared his excitement about the casting:
“We’re so excited to have Jonathan joining our cast. He’s a tremendous talent and will be a fantastic addition to GH.” Beyond Mean Girls, Bennett has built an impressive résumé across film and television. He starred in National Lampoon’s Van Wilder: Freshman Year and appeared in Cheaper by the Dozen 2 alongside Steve Martin. His television credits include appearances on shows such as Station 19, Law & Order: SVU, Fantasy Island, and Dr. Odyssey, demonstrating his versatility across genres.
Off-screen, Bennett has also made headlines for his personal milestones. In 2021, he and his partner became the first same-sex couple to appear on the cover of The Knot. He later married Jaymes Vaughan in March 2022 in a beautiful ceremony in Riviera Maya, Mexico.
Deadline was first to report the news. Fans won’t have to wait long—Bennett is slated to make his General Hospital debut in May. With a brand-new character and a strong entrance likely planned, all eyes will be on Joe Fitzpatrick. Will he be a hero, a villain, or something in between? In Port Charles, nothing is ever that simple.
