The battle between Nick Newman and Matt Clark is gearing up once again on The Young and the Restless, and Joshua Morrow is thrilled to share the screen with Roger Howarth as the storyline builds toward another explosive chapter.
Joshua Morrow Raves About Roger Howarth’s “Unhinged” Matt Clark
In a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, Morrow praised his co-star’s talent and the bold energy Howarth has brought to the iconic villain. “I can say without question, Roger is one of the most talented people I’ve ever worked with,” Morrow said. “He’s an incredible artist. I love what he’s done.” According to Morrow, Howarth has delivered a completely unique interpretation of Matt Clark, leaning into a darker and far more unpredictable version of the character. “He’s played Matt Clark with a completely different, unhinged, maniacal quality that none of the other portrayers played him with,” Morrow explained. The actor made it clear that his comments weren’t meant to diminish the performances of past actors who portrayed Matt Clark. “And that’s not a slight on Eddie Cibrian or Rick Hearst’s talents whatsoever,” Morrow added. “It’s just Roger’s take on this is completely different and unique.”
A Fascinating Actor to Work With
Morrow also shared how much he enjoys working alongside Howarth, describing him as endlessly fascinating both as an actor and scene partner. “He’s just a fascinating guy to watch and to work with,” Morrow said. “I feel blessed that I get to see him again. I love what he’s done with Matt Clark.”
With Howarth confirmed to be back filming scenes for the soap, the stage is being set for the next chapter in the dangerous rivalry between Matt and Nick.
An Actor Who Prefers to Improvise
Interestingly, Morrow revealed that he and Howarth don’t spend much time rehearsing together before shooting their scenes. “As an actor, I don’t really like to run lines,” Morrow admitted. Coming from an improvisational theater background, he prefers to react naturally in the moment rather than over-prepare. “I come from an improv background in theater, and I like it when you have to think on your feet,” he explained. “That’s why I don’t really spend a lot of time with the other actor trying to prepare.”
Because of that approach, Morrow shared that he’s only run lines with Howarth once and isn’t entirely sure what his co-star’s preparation process looks like.
Still, whatever Howarth is doing clearly works. “I’m not sure what he does when he goes out there,” Morrow joked, “but whatever it is, sign me up. Dude’s freaking brilliant.”
A Showdown Is Coming
With Roger Howarth officially back filming and tensions between Matt Clark and Nick Newman rising, fans can expect the storyline to ramp up in the weeks ahead.
