The emotional fallout among Maxie Jones, Lulu Spencer, and Nathan West has sparked a heated debate among General Hospital fans.
Maxie Vs Lulu: GH Fans Clash Over Nathan And The “Girl Code” Debate
Maxie’s Life Changed Overnight
Maxie’s recent storyline has been one of the most emotional arcs on the show. In August 2025, she was poisoned by a contaminated cosmetic cream connected to Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota), leaving her in a coma.
With her condition uncertain, Maxie’s loved ones moved her to a long-term care facility in Boston while they hoped for a miracle. That miracle finally came when Maxie woke up on the February 12, 2026, episode of General Hospital.
But waking up didn’t mean everything returned to normal. Maxie had to face a reality that would overwhelm anyone: she had missed an entire year of her life. Even more shocking, the man she believed she had lost forever — Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) — was suddenly alive again.
Processing that kind of emotional whiplash isn’t something anyone can do instantly.
Some People Are Just Off Limits
For many fans, the controversy surrounding Lulu and Nathan comes down to a simple rule of friendship: you don’t date your best friend’s ex-husband.
Nathan wasn’t just another relationship in Maxie’s past. He was the love of her life and the father of her child. Even though their lives took different turns, the emotional connection between them didn’t simply disappear.
Expecting Maxie to wake up from a coma, learn that her presumed-dead husband is alive, and then immediately support her best friend, potentially moving on with him, feels unrealistic to many viewers.
As Maxie herself suggested, feelings don’t just turn off like a switch.
Did Maxie React Too Quickly?
Some viewers believe Maxie may have made a snap decision in the emotional aftermath of waking up. She had an enormous amount to process in a very short time — discovering Nathan was alive, realizing she had missed an entire year of her life, and facing the complicated relationships that formed during her absence.
In that moment, expecting her to calmly accept Lulu potentially moving forward with Nathan may have been unrealistic.
The Peter Factor
Of course, there is another piece of history that complicates the debate.
After Nathan’s death, Maxie eventually married his half-brother, Peter August (Wes Ramsey). Their relationship resulted in the birth of their daughter, Bailey Louise Jones.
Because of that, some fans argue that criticizing Lulu could be seen as a double standard. If Maxie could move on with Nathan’s own brother, why should Lulu be judged for developing feelings for Nathan?
Others believe the situations are completely different. Maxie believed Nathan was dead at the time, and her relationship with Peter didn’t involve betraying a close friend.
The Bottom Line
In Port Charles, love, loyalty, and friendship rarely exist in simple black-and-white terms. The emotional history between Maxie, Lulu, and Nathan makes this situation especially complicated.
Some fans believe Lulu crossed a line that should never have been crossed. Others believe Nathan deserves the chance to move forward with his life, no matter who that might be with.
One thing is certain: this storyline has struck a nerve with viewers, and the debate over loyalty and “girl code” in Port Charles is far from over.
