Days of Our Lives has welcomed a fresh face to Salem as Tyler Joseph Andrews officially stepped into the role of Theo Carver on September 9th.

The actor, who comes from a strong theater background, is taking on his first daytime soap role, and he’s already making waves.

In a recent TVInsider interview, Andrews revealed that his path to Salem wasn’t a straight one. He originally auditioned for the role of Tate Black (now played by Leo Howard) and even screen-tested with Ashley Puzemis (Holly Jonas). Though he didn’t land the part, he stayed determined.

Months later, another audition came along, without him even knowing who he was reading for. After testing with Marissa Reyes (Arianna Horton), Andrews received the call: he was the new Theo Carver. “I was really happy because the first time I auditioned, I told my agent, ‘Look out for the email, ’cause I think I might get this one.’ And then when it didn’t happen, I was disappointed, so I was really grateful that they ended up calling me back in the audition once more,” he shared.

Though Andrews has plenty of acting experience, the soap world was an entirely new challenge. “I come from a theater background,” he explained. “And this feels like live theater because you have a rehearsal and then you go to tape, but you only get to do it once. So, I was a little overwhelmed the first day.”

That one-take pace, however, is something he now embraces as part of the excitement of joining Days.

Theo comes back to Salem following a breakup with Claire, returning from South Africa in search of direction. Andrews previews, “He’s coming back sort of lost, but he’s trying to find himself and he’s trying to find that purpose that he needs in life. He’s maturing, and he wants to solidify something in Salem for the future.”

This return storyline promises growth for Theo and a chance to reconnect with Salem’s tight-knit community, all while carving out new drama for the Carver family.

Before landing Days of Our Lives, Andrews appeared in several television projects, including I’ll Always Love You (2023), Bonds of Blood (2023), and A Heart Full of Hope. Now, he’s eager for both fans and his family to see his work daily. “It’s a big relief,” he said. “I know my family’s going to really enjoy watching it because I’m so far away from them. I don’t really get to see them a lot, so it gives them something to watch me on daily. I’m really excited for it to come out.”
