Imagine if The Young And The Restless featured a love triangle involving Nate Hastings, Victoria Newman, and Kyle Abbott.
Nate Hastings VS Kyle Abbott: Should Writers Craft A Romantic War Over Victoria Newman?
The elements were in place. Victoria Newman was emotionally fragile after Cole Howard's death, and Nate Hastings was mourning the loss of his newly found brother, Damien Kane (Jermaine Rivers). Their mutual heartache has naturally drawn them back to each other. But things took a sharp turn after Victor Newman’s shocking fake kidnapping plot involving Lily Winters, and no longer a couple.
Nate was furious after learning Victoria knew about Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) manipulative plan to “teach Cane a lesson” over the AI software war at Newman Enterprises. For perhaps the first time, Nate truly challenged Victoria over her loyalty to Victor and questioned how far she is willing to go to protect her father.
Kyle And Victoria Clash
Kyle fiercely defends his father, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), while Victoria remains unconditionally loyal to her father, Victor. Their clashes often result in explosive arguments, with Kyle accusing the Newmans of sabotaging his family and Victoria returning the insults. The most frequent tool that ignites chemistry and leads to an unexpected romance.
Honestly? A Kyle and Victoria pairing would send shockwaves through Genoa City.
Not only would Victoria becoming involved with her daughter’s ex create massive family fallout, but it would also reignite the Abbott vs. Newman war on a deeply personal level. Jack would likely accuse Victoria of manipulating Kyle, while Victor would absolutely despise the idea of ANOTHER Abbott man getting close to his daughter. In addition, Nate could find himself watching Victoria slip toward Kyle just as he realizes he still loves her.
This Is Where It Gets Messy!
Kyle represents rebellion against Victor’s control. Nate represents Victoria’s emotional safety and history. And Victoria would be torn between the comfort of the past and the excitement of something dangerous and unexpected. The biggest casualty of all this? Claire Newman. Imagine Claire discovering her ex-boyfriend growing emotionally attached to her own mother while Nate fights to win Victoria back. The betrayal alone could permanently fracture Victoria’s relationship with her daughter. And from a soap perspective, that is exactly the kind of emotionally layered drama Y&R thrives on.
