Nick's Recovery Faces a Major Challenge

Nick's Recovery Faces a Major Challenge
Joshua Morrow (Nick Newman)

The Young and the Restless spoilers reveal Nick Newman is learning that recovery isn't a straight path, and some days are harder than others.

Nick's Recovery Faces a Major Challenge

While talking with Sharon Newman (Sharon Case), Nick opens up about how much he's been struggling lately. What really gets to him is hearing about someone who had been sober for years but still ended up relapsing. It leaves Nick wondering if he'll ever truly be free from the pull of addiction.

Nick also admits he's been having recurring panic dreams where he's desperately searching for drugs. Sharon asks if he actually uses them in the dreams, and Nick says yes, every time.

The problem is that there's never any satisfaction waiting for him.

Instead, he wakes up feeling guilty and defeated, like he's already let himself down before the day even starts.

Sharon reminds Nick that recovery takes time and that his brain is still healing. She encourages him to be patient with himself, but Nick can't stop thinking about how quickly his life spiraled out of control. If he could go back and change things, he would.

Although Sharon believes he can get through this, Nick worries that determination alone may not be enough. He'd rather focus on work and throw himself into Newman Enterprises, but Sharon quickly points out that staying busy won't solve the emotional issues underneath.

Before long, Sharon gets a call from Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) and steps away, leaving Nick alone with his thoughts. That's when things take an unsettling turn.

Nick walks into another room and unexpectedly comes face-to-face with one of his former drug dealers. The man casually greets Nick and suggests he might be able to help him out. Nick immediately shuts him down, making it clear he's not interested and doesn't want that kind of influence around him anymore.

He even warns the dealer that if he sees him there again, they're going to have a problem. But before leaving, the dealer delivers one final reminder that hits a little too close to home. He still has Nick's number.

The encounter may have been brief, but it serves as a stark reminder that Nick's past isn't finished with him yet. As he continues fighting for his sobriety, temptations seem to be appearing everywhere.

Will Nick stay strong, or could this run-in be the beginning of a dangerous setback?
