Phyllis tried to convince Cane that her focus was Arabesque and that she was exploring opportunities in real estate. Cane wasn’t buying it. He could tell there was something else going on, and honestly, when Phyllis starts insisting there’s nothing to see, that’s usually when everyone should start looking a little closer.
Cane even seemed genuinely concerned about her. He doesn’t want to watch Phyllis crash and burn, particularly while she's playing around with his former company.
But then Phyllis finally got to the real reason she wanted to talk.
She wants to buy everything Cane acquired in Genoa City when he returned — including the Athletic Club. Excuse me? That isn't exactly dipping a toe into real estate. Phyllis apparently wants the whole pool.
Cane Immediately Put the Pieces Together
This is where things got interesting. Cane knows Phyllis. More importantly, he knows his own abandoned strategy. It didn't take him long to figure out what she might be planning: take what Cane built, combine it with Arabesque, and essentially resurrect his old plan to go after Genoa City's companies.
And what did Phyllis say when Cane laid that theory right in front of her?
Nothing. No denial. No sarcastic comeback. No elaborate Phyllis explanation about how Cane has everything completely wrong.
Just silence. Cane understandably took that as confirmation.
And can you blame him?
Phyllis With Cane's Old Playbook Could Be Trouble
There's something deliciously Phyllis about this possibility. Cane came back to Genoa City with enormous ambitions, bought up valuable properties, and had plans that could have shaken up the city's corporate establishment. Now Phyllis may essentially be saying: If you're not going to use it, I will. That's where this could get fun. Because Phyllis doesn't necessarily need Cane as a business partner. She needs what Cane owns.
She called this a one-and-done transaction, but does anyone really believe anything involving Phyllis Summers and a corporate takeover is going to remain that simple? Cane certainly shouldn't.
Haven't These Two Learned Anything?
There's also their history. Cane reminded Phyllis that the last time they worked together, she burned him and the entire situation blew up in both their faces.
Phyllis naturally had a different interpretation. That's another reason Cane should probably think very carefully before handing her the keys to his Genoa City holdings.
He may technically be selling Phyllis assets rather than becoming her partner, but once Phyllis starts putting his old strategy into motion, Cane could find himself dragged into the fallout anyway.
And Phyllis? She looks like a woman who has finally found something that excites her again.
So Who Is Phyllis Really Coming After?
That's the question I'm most interested in. Buying Cane's properties is one thing. Reviving his plan to use Arabesque as a weapon against Genoa City's corporate heavyweights is something entirely different.
If Cane's theory is right, Phyllis isn't simply trying to save Arabesque.
She's preparing for war. And the funniest part is that Cane may have figured out the entire scheme before Phyllis even made her first move.
She didn't have to confirm it. Her face, and that silence, did it for her.
Now the question is whether Cane sells anyway. Because watching Phyllis Summers get her hands on Cane's abandoned playbook could be exactly the kind of corporate chaos The Young and the Restless needs.
