The daytime television community is mourning another loss.
Rif Hutton Dies After Cancer Battle
On April 20th, news began circulating that Days of Our Lives alum Patrick Muldoon had reportedly passed away on April 19th due to a heart attack. The sudden nature of his passing has sent shockwaves through fans who remember him for his contributions to daytime and primetime television alike.
Tragically, that news was followed by confirmation that veteran actor Rif Hutton passed away on April 18th at the age of 73 after a battle with brain cancer (glioblastoma).
According to TMZ, Hutton died at his home in Pasadena, California, surrounded by loved ones after fighting the illness for over a year. He is survived by his wife and son.
Soap fans may recognize Hutton from his role as Lenny in Nixon Falls on General Hospital, but his career extended far beyond Port Charles. He was perhaps best known for his recurring role as Dr. Ron Welch on Doogie Howser, M.D., where he appeared in 17 episodes alongside Neil Patrick Harris during the show’s early success.
Throughout his career, Hutton built an impressive résumé with appearances in a variety of popular series and films, including Star Trek: Generations, JAG, and The Bold and the Beautiful. Known for his steady presence and versatility, he remained a recognizable face across decades of television.
This is an incredibly difficult moment for the daytime community, as fans and colleagues alike reflect on the legacy both actors leave behind. Their contributions to television—especially within the soap world—will not be forgotten.
