Rory Gibson, currently known for his role on General Hospital as Michael Corinthos, recently shared a deeply personal and candid account of a difficult period in his life.
Rory Gibson Opens Up About Homelessness and Hardships
On Maurice Benard’s State of Mind podcast, Gibson revealed that following his departure from The Young and the Restless around the time of the SAG/AFTRA strikes, he and his fiancée, Alicia Ruela, faced a harsh reality. They were essentially homeless for nearly a year.
“Things got real, real bumpy for a while because we hit the strikes,” Gibson said. “I’ve never shared this publicly, but me and my fiancée were essentially homeless.” Both struggled as their sources of income dried up. Gibson was no longer receiving acting opportunities on Y&R, and Ruela’s professional modeling work also slowed to a halt. Unable to afford rent, the couple resorted to couch-surfing for months.
Despite these challenges, Gibson says this difficult chapter helped him grow both personally and professionally. “I’m pursuing the thing that I love and that I want to do, and that I want to make something out of my life with,” he said. “And I want to enjoy what I do while simultaneously having to accept the fact that it’s going to come with a lot of trials and tribulations.”
His honesty shines a light on the realities many actors face in an unpredictable industry and serves as an inspiring reminder of resilience and determination.
