Rory Gibson is right in the middle of one of General Hospital’s hottest storylines as Michael Corinthos finds himself the prime suspect in the “Who Shot Drew” mystery.
Rory Gibson Talks Michael’s Fight For Survival Amid Drew’s Accusations
In a Soap Opera Digest interview, Gibson opened up about the drama, Michael’s desperation, and even a behind-the-scenes mishap that left him drenched.
Michael’s Dilemma
Michael’s world has been upended by Drew’s accusations, which threaten not only his freedom but also his custody of Wiley and Amelia. Gibson revealed he plays Michael as “a relatively composed, stoic person,” but beneath that exterior is “a shell of a lot of the internal frustration” boiling within him.
In this moment, Michael is panicked. “If this gets pinned on him, all of that goes away, and there’s no way he’s ever getting [his kids] back,” Gibson explained. “So, I think he’s in a state of true panic. He’s fighting for survival, essentially.”
Innocence vs. Perception
While Gibson roots for his character’s innocence, he acknowledges the gray area Michael lives in. “On the one hand, Drew has definitely done the most, and I’m sure Michael definitely wants to [see him gone]. But at the same time, it’s almost like, if he did that, then everything that Drew has told Willow about him becomes true, like, Michael really is just a monster, this terrible person that he’s painted him out to be in her eyes. ”That inner conflict adds layers to the drama: even if Michael didn’t pull the trigger, his motives are murky.
Behind the Scenes: Soaked on Set
Gibson also shared a lighter story from filming the tense car scenes. While Michael brooded at the crime scene, Gibson was battling something else entirely: water. “What was going through my head is that my underwear is soaking wet!” he laughed.
The production team had rigged a rain machine to simulate the storm, and Gibson was left drenched while trying to stay in character. “I remember just focusing on the scene and having to be like, ‘Okay, intense. Brood, brood, brood,’ but at the same time thinking, ‘One, I’m soaking wet, and two, I feel bad for whoever’s car this is!’ I didn’t even remotely try to dry off so that car’s interior got drenched!”
Jacinda’s Role
As for Michael’s chances of clearing his name, Jacinda Bracken (Paige Herschell) might be his only lifeline. “At this point, it’s pure desperation,” Gibson admitted. “He knows Dante’s a smart guy, and I think he knows Dante’s not going to buy this, but he doesn’t really have much of a choice. He’s just trying to grasp at straws here, and he’s just trying to make whatever he can make happen happen.”
Michael doesn’t necessarily need Dante to believe him, Gibson added, he just needs evidence that holds up, no matter how flimsy.
What’s Next for Michael?
With Drew determined to take him down, Willow caught in the middle, and Dante asking tough questions, Michael’s survival, legally and emotionally, is on the line. Whether he walks away cleared or condemned may hinge on Jacinda’s testimony… and how far Drew is willing to push his vendetta.
