Saving Willow Tait: And We’re Tired of It!

Don’t get us wrong...we love Katelyn MacMullen. She continues to deliver, especially as General Hospital takes Willow Tait further into morally questionable territory. But Willow herself? We’re exhausted watching Port Charles line up to save her from consequences she helped create.
At some point, somebody has to stop rescuing Willow.
She drugged Drew with a paralytic for months. That isn’t a misunderstanding, an unfortunate choice of words, or something that can simply be blamed on the Quartermaines. Willow made the decision, and now that Lulu’s article has dragged the truth into the light, what happens? Once again, people are scrambling to protect her.
Saving Willow Tait: And We’re Tired of It!
Chase, Please Open Your Eyes
Chase may be the most frustrating part of this storyline.
He immediately decided the Quartermaines were behind Lulu’s article and was ready to fight on Willow’s behalf. He even wanted Willow to sue for libel and force a retraction — while Willow stood there knowing the allegations were true.
Then came the line that said everything:
“It’s for both of us.”
Both of you?!
Chase’s marriage to Brook Lynn is falling apart, and instead of concentrating on that disaster, he’s charging into battle for his ex-wife. Worse, he doesn’t even know what he’s defending.
Willow could end this immediately by telling Chase the truth. Instead, she allows him to believe she’s an innocent victim being targeted by the Quartermaines.
And somehow Chase still doesn’t see the warning signs.
Now Britt Is Running Cleanup?
At least Britt knows what Willow actually did. But even after hearing Willow confess, her instinct is damage control.
We understand Britt wanting to support her cousin. Supporting someone you love, however, doesn’t have to mean helping them escape accountability.
There’s actually a much more interesting story waiting for Willow if GH allows her to face what she’s done.
Let her lose something.
Let people be angry with her.
Let Chase discover he made a fool of himself defending her.
Let Willow rebuild her life instead of having another character arrive with a shovel every time she digs herself into a hole.
Willow Doesn't Need Another Rescue
This is where the frustration really comes from. Willow has become far more complicated than the sweet, sympathetic character viewers originally met — and that could be a fantastic evolution.
So embrace it!
Katelyn MacMullen is more than capable of playing a messy Willow who makes terrible decisions and has to live with them. The show doesn't need to keep insisting that someone else is ultimately responsible whenever
Willow crosses another line.
Sidwell manipulated her. Drew has plenty to answer for. Michael certainly isn't perfect. The Quartermaines can be ruthless.
None of that erases Willow's own choices.
And drugging someone with a paralytic for months is one choice that deserves consequences.
For once, stop saving Willow Tait and make Willow save herself.
That might finally be the storyline that makes the character compelling again.
