TMZ reported Panettiere’s death on Sunday, August 16. Her representative subsequently confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement shared with ABC News. At this time, a cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden,” her representative said, remembering the actress as “an incredible light and a force of nature.”

Panettiere's Daytime Soap Beginnings

Long before Panettiere became a household name through Heroes and Nashville, daytime soap fans watched her grow up on television.

Panettiere joined ABC’s One Life to Live in 1994 as Sarah Roberts, the daughter of Cord Roberts and Tina Lord. She remained in the role until 1997.

She also became part of the Guiding Light family as Lizzie Spaulding, portraying the character from 1996 to 2000. One of Lizzie's most memorable storylines involved the young character battling leukemia, a storyline that helped bring awareness to the disease among daytime viewers.

Those early soap roles helped launch a career that would eventually take Panettiere far beyond daytime television.

From Daytime to Heroes and Nashville

Panettiere found widespread primetime fame as Claire Bennet on NBC's Heroes. The role of the seemingly indestructible cheerleader became one of the defining performances of her career.

She later starred as country singer Juliette Barnes on Nashville, another signature role that showcased both her acting and musical talents. Her performance on the series earned her two Golden Globe nominations.

Panettiere also built an extensive film career. Her credits included Remember the Titans, Raising Helen, Ice Princess, I Love You, Beth Cooper, Scream 4 and Scream VI. She additionally portrayed Amanda Knox in the television movie Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy.

Remembering Hayden Panettiere

For longtime soap fans, Panettiere will always hold a special place in daytime history as one of the young performers who successfully made the leap from soaps to major primetime and film roles.

Whether viewers first knew her as Sarah Roberts, Lizzie Spaulding, Claire Bennet, Juliette Barnes or Kirby Reed, Panettiere built a career spanning decades and generations of television and movie fans.

The circumstances surrounding her death have not yet been publicly disclosed, and reports indicate the story is still developing.
