Sad news this morning — Eyewitness 7, an ABC affiliate in Los Angeles, has reported the passing of beloved soap legend Tristan Rogers.

Soap Opera Icon Tristan Rogers Passed Away At 79

The actor, best known for his decades-long portrayal of Robert Scorpio on General Hospital, died at the age of 79. His death was confirmed just a month after he publicly announced his battle with lung cancer.

Rogers’ final General Hospital appearance aired on July 18, 2025, during a storyline connected to the departure of Sofia Mattsson’s character, Sasha Gilmore Corbin.

Joining GH in December 1980 for what was meant to be a short three-week role, Rogers quickly captured viewers’ hearts. His popularity led to a three-year contract, and Robert Scorpio became an integral part of the show, especially through his involvement with the legendary “supercouple” Luke and Laura. Rogers made multiple returns to the series over the decades, with his most recent run lasting from 2018 to 2024.

Beyond GH, Rogers also made a mark on The Young and the Restless, debuting as Colin Atkinson on December 8, 2010. Initially recurring, he went on contract in 2011. Although written out later that year, he returned briefly in 2012 and again in 2025, with Colin’s death occurring offscreen.

He leaves behind an enduring legacy in daytime television. Daytime Soap Stop sends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and countless fans who loved him.

Rogers is survived by his wife, two children, and a grandchild.
