The Young and the Restless icon Jess Walton is ready to tell her story, and this time, there’s no script
And judging by the publisher’s description, Walton isn’t holding much back.
The memoir will take readers far beyond the drama of Genoa City as Walton opens up about her journey to Hollywood, her struggles with addiction, finding sobriety, falling in love, becoming a mother, and ultimately landing the role that would change her life forever.
Before Genoa City
Long before Walton became synonymous with Jill Abbott, she was a young actress from Toronto trying to make her mark.
Walton will take readers back to her early theater days and eventual move to Los Angeles, where she became part of the colorful Laurel Canyon scene. Her story crossed paths with some major names along the way, including Neil Young, David Geffen, Laura Nyro, and Joni Mitchell.
After landing a contract with Universal, Walton began building her television career through a steady stream of guest appearances.
But her memoir won't focus only on career success.
Walton also plans to candidly address the darker side of her years in 1970s Los Angeles, including Hollywood's party scene, alcohol, drugs, relationships, and the experiences that eventually pushed her toward a very different life.
She'll share the journey that led her to sobriety, true love, and, eventually, daytime television history.
Jess Walton Becomes Jill Abbott
Everything changed in 1987.
Walton walked through the CBS artists' entrance that June after being hired to take over the role of Jill Foster Abbott on The Young and the Restless.
She officially made her Y&R debut as Jill on June 22, 1987, succeeding Brenda Dickson in the iconic role.
What followed was nearly four decades of unforgettable soap opera history.
Jill has survived romances, marriages, betrayals, bitter rivalries, family bombshells, corporate battles and, of course, some legendary confrontations. Walton's portrayal also earned her two Daytime Emmy Awards and cemented her place among Y&R's most recognizable stars.
But The Young and the Rest of Us promises plenty for fans interested in what happened when the cameras weren't rolling, too.
According to Kensington Publishing, the book will feature behind-the-scenes stories and celebrity appearances while also exploring deeply personal chapters of Walton's life involving marriage, motherhood, empty-nesting, self-discovery and finding the courage to begin again.
After playing one of daytime television's most fearless women for decades, Walton is finally putting her own extraordinary story front and center.
For longtime The Young and the Restless fans, this could be one of the most fascinating soap memoirs to hit bookshelves in years.
The Young and the Rest of Us by Jess Walton is scheduled for release on April 27, 2027.
