“She’s fascinating, really”: The actress celebrates Audra’s layers, resilience, and slow-burn evolution.
Zuleyka Silver Reflects On Three Years As Audra Charles
Zuleyka Silver is celebrating three years of bringing Audra Charles to life on The Young and the Restless. In a new interview with Soap Opera Digest, the actress reflected on her journey in Genoa City, opening up about the challenge—and joy—of portraying one of the soap’s most layered characters, a woman who balances sharp-edged ambition with moments of surprising vulnerability.
Showing a Softer Side
From her romantic involvement with Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) to navigating Amy’s (Valarie Pettiford) cancer diagnosis, Audra has revealed glimpses of tenderness beneath her sharp edge. Silver admitted that exploring those dimensions has been both a challenge and a joy.
“It is very stimulating as an actor to peel back the layers,” she explained. “I feel like, over these three years that I’ve been playing Audra, I’ve just been trying to discover how I can add different layers to her. Just getting to know her and her past more, and why she acts the way that she does.”
Embracing the Flaws
Audra’s reputation as a schemer hasn’t made her any less fascinating to Silver. In fact, the actress said that her alter ego’s trauma and resilience are what make the role so rewarding.
“She’s a lot of fun to play,” Silver admitted. “I think she’s a really interesting character. She has a lot of trauma and is a little damaged, but that’s why I love her. She’s a survivor, she’s a fighter, and she doesn’t quit. I just think she’s fascinating, really.”
Three Years and Counting
As for reaching the three-year milestone, Silver confessed it feels both surprising and perfectly natural.
“It feels like it hasn’t been three years, but then it does,” she said. “I’m like, ‘Wow, time really does fly.’ But then I feel like just now we’re starting to see a little bit of evolution with Audra, when she was a bit vulnerable, and then she kind of went back to her essence.”
Silver also reflected on the unique pacing of daytime drama. “The things we learned about her have been unfolded slowly,” she continued. “Sometimes I feel like time has gone by fast outside of the show, but not in it, if that makes sense. That’s just the nature, I’m learning, of soaps, right? One day is what, like, seven episodes or something?”
As Audra continues to stir up drama in Genoa City, Silver remains committed to finding new layers to bring to life. Three years in, the actress is just as captivated by Audra as fans are.
