According to TV Insider, Lexie Carver is coming back from the dead, with actress Nikki Crawford stepping into the role. Crawford will make her debut as the beloved character on Friday, March 6.
Crawford is well known for her work on stage and television. In 2023, she earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance in Fat Ham. Her television credits also include appearances in popular primetime series such as A Different World, Malcolm in the Middle, Pretty Little Liars, and Elsbeth. Days of Our Lives will mark Crawford’s first role in daytime television.
A Legendary Role in Salem
Lexie Carver has a long and complicated history on Days of Our Lives. The character was first introduced in 1987 and originally played by Cyndi James Gossett from 1987 to 1989. The role was later recast with Angelique Francis, who portrayed Lexie from 1989 to 1992.
In 1993, Shellye Broughton briefly took on the role before Renée Jones became the actress most closely associated with Lexie. Jones portrayed the character from 1993 until Lexie’s emotional death in 2012. Years later, Jennifer Lee stepped into the role for a single episode in 2021.
Now, more than a decade after Lexie’s passing, the character is returning in classic Days of Our Lives fashion.
Dr. Rolf’s Shocking Secret
Lexie’s resurrection is tied to one of Salem’s most notorious scientists. According to the storyline, Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (Richard Wharton) has secretly been keeping Lexie alive. She has reportedly been preserved inside a capsule in a mysterious laboratory at University Hospital.
As with many of Dr. Rolf’s experiments, the full story behind Lexie’s survival — and why she was kept hidden for so long — remains a mystery. But once the truth is revealed, the impact on Salem could be enormous.
Crawford Didn’t Know She Was Auditioning for Lexie
Interestingly, Crawford had no idea she was auditioning for such a major role when she first read for the show. “They didn’t tell me it was Lexie Carver,” Crawford shared. “They used another name just because she was such a beloved character. So when I started doing my research, I thought, ‘Oh, well, maybe she’s coming on as Lexie’s sister.’ It wasn’t until I got the role that they told me, ‘No, you’re the new Lexie Carver.’”
Researching a Beloved Character
Although Crawford admitted she wasn’t previously a soap opera viewer, she made sure to dive deeply into Lexie’s long and complicated history. “I don’t watch soaps, but like with any role that I take on, I do extensive research,” she explained. “So I watched the show and delved into her backstory through Google searches. There’s so much information and so many websites dedicated to Lexie Carver, so I did a lot of that.”
Once she arrived on set, Crawford also relied on the guidance of the cast and crew to better understand the character. “When I got on set and started working, I started speaking to other actors, and the producers and directors really filled me in on Lexie’s backstory, which was extremely helpful,” she said. “The character had gone through so much and so I wanted to embody all of that when she comes back to life.”
A Huge Twist for Salem
Bringing Lexie Carver back to life is sure to send shockwaves through Salem, especially for the people who loved her most. As the mystery surrounding Dr. Rolf’s experiment unfolds, fans can expect emotional reunions, shocking revelations, and plenty of classic Days of Our Lives drama.
One thing is certain — Salem will never be the same once Lexie Carver returns.
