Shemar Moore is officially headed back to The Young and the Restless as Malcolm Winters, and his long-awaited return is almost here.
Everything To Know About Shemar Moore’s Return To Y&R As Malcolm Winters
Back in February, news broke that Moore would reprise his fan-favorite role alongside Vivica A. Fox, who is also returning as Stephanie Simmons. Now, Malcolm’s comeback is right around the corner. According to TV Insider, Moore is set to first appear on April 7.
For Moore, stepping back into Genoa City brought a wave of emotions. “I feel humbled and honored and nostalgic,” he said. “But I also have a bone to pick with Young and the Restless because all I was asked was, ‘Would I be willing to come back for a cool little story?’ And my mother raised me to always remember where you came from, but I didn’t know they were gonna make me memorize 124 pages for three days of work [Laughs]! Even when I was Malcolm for real all those years back, I never did 124 pages!”
Moore originally played Malcolm from 1994 to 2005, later making occasional returns through the years. Since then, he has built one of the most consistent careers in television, something he reflected on with gratitude and pride.
“I show so much gratitude to Young and Restless, to CBS,” Moore shared. “I call my career high school, college, and graduate school: Eight years on Young and Restless and coming back here and there was high school, and then 11 years on Criminal Minds was college, then eight years on S.W.A.T. was graduate school.”
He continued, “CBS embraced me, saw something good in me, and gave me this life and career. Now, I’m off doing a new version of S.W.A.T. [Exiles], which is not CBS, but to be able to say that I had an eight-year run on a soap opera, an 11-year run on a primetime show, an eight-year run on another primetime show, and for it all to be on CBS? That just doesn’t happen.”
Of course, this being Genoa City, Malcolm and Stephanie’s arrival won’t be calm for long. Drama is expected to kick in quickly once the pair hits town.
Although Moore’s current stint will be brief, it won’t be the end just yet. He revealed that he’ll be filming again this month to finish out the story. “I just told them, please don’t give me 124 pages,” he joked. “They were like, ‘How about 50 or 60?’ I was like, ‘I’ll take it!’ I’m going to be a good listener; let Vivica and the rest of them do the talking!”
With Malcolm Winters back in the mix and Stephanie Simmons returning as well, The Young and the Restless fans can expect a nostalgic comeback with plenty of drama packed into it.
