Former General Hospital star Marcus Coloma is opening up about a health scare that left him fearing for his life, and how the experience led to both physical healing and a powerful spiritual transformation.
Marcus Coloma Reflects On Health Scare And Journey Back To Wellness
In a heartfelt Instagram video, Coloma shared that several years ago, after filming over 300 episodes of a TV series, he suddenly began experiencing symptoms that alarmed him.
"I started feeling really fatigued... I kept forgetting my lines. Would go totally blank. I couldn’t tell what was going on," Coloma revealed.
As time went on, the fatigue worsened. Coloma described experiencing “mental fog” and feeling so exhausted by early afternoon that he needed to lie down. Concerned and confused, he eventually sought help, and that decision may have saved his life.
“I went to a physical therapist, Rob @freemotionpt, who kind of saved my life because he said, ‘I want to check out your heart rate,’ and he found out my heart was beating at a resting rate of 110 bpm.”
That discovery was a turning point. After visits to urgent care, several doctors, and ultimately an electrophysiologist, Coloma underwent surgery to correct a birth defect in his heart.
“The good news is it was a relatively easy fix, and it was a relatively easy recovery... Once it was fixed, he said, ‘Your heart is actually perfectly fine.’”
With the surgery behind him, the next chapter was about rebuilding his strength, physically and emotionally. Coloma credits @cobrinhacharles for helping him get back into shape, but also emphasized that the entire ordeal became a much deeper experience.
“More importantly, it was a spiritual journey. I realized that I’m not my body. The body is like a car… At the end of the day, I think the biggest gift out of all of this was an appreciation for life, and friends, and for people out there who helped me get back up.” ❤️
Fans of General Hospital will remember Coloma’s portrayal of Nikolas Cassadine, a role he played from 2019 to 2022. As he continues his journey with renewed health and perspective, his message is a touching reminder of the importance of listening to your body and the value of gratitude.
