The Young and the Restless Reveals When New Head Writers’ Storylines Will Begin

After weeks of anticipation, CBS has finally revealed when the next era of The Young and the Restless will officially begin—and Genoa City fans won’t have to wait much longer!
The Young and the Restless Reveals When New Head Writers’ Storylines Will Begin
Although Season 54 of Y&R premieres on October 8, the first episodes written under new co-head writers Jamey Giddens and Dan O’Connor will begin airing on Wednesday, November 11, 2026.
Giddens and O’Connor are taking over for Josh Griffith, who decided to step down after serving as the soap’s head writer since 2019. Their appointment was announced in July, but viewers were left wondering when their material would finally reach the screen.
Dan O’Connor’s Daytime History
O’Connor began his daytime career as a writers’ associate on ABC’s One Life to Live. He eventually became a continuity script supervisor and scriptwriter, even helping pen the soap’s ABC finale.
After One Life to Live ended, O’Connor joined General Hospital in 2013. He worked in several positions, including breakdown writer and associate head writer, before being promoted to co-head writer alongside Chris Van Etten in 2019. He remained in that position until 2024.
Following his departure from GH, O’Connor joined the writing team at Days of Our Lives as a scriptwriter. His first scripts for the Peacock soap began airing in January 2025.
Jamey Giddens’ Journey From Soap Journalist to Head Writer
Giddens has a long history with daytime television. Before becoming a television writer, he was best known as the co-founder and editorial director of the soap news website and podcast Daytime Confidential.
He later moved into scripted television, working on Victoria Rowell’s series The Rich and the Ruthless. Giddens also co-created the OWN primetime drama Ambitions, which starred Robin Givens and premiered in 2019.
Giddens went on to become a breakdown writer for Days of Our Lives, remaining with the soap through 2025. He also worked on the Peacock spin-off Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem before joining CBS’s Beyond the Gates as a breakdown writer.
Both Giddens and O’Connor are Daytime Emmy and Writers Guild of America Award winners, so they are certainly bringing plenty of experience to their new positions.
Now the big question is what their arrival will mean for the residents of Genoa City. Will November 11 bring an immediate change in tone, pacing, and character direction—or will the transition happen gradually?
Either way, a brand-new chapter of The Young and the Restless is officially about to begin.
