YR Shakes Up Creative Team As Jamey Giddens And Dan O'Connor Named New Co-Head Writers
After Josh Griffith stepped down as head writer in June, CBS has found the duo that will lead Genoa City's next chapter. According to TV Insider, Jamey Giddens and Dan O'Connor have been named the new co-head writers of The Young and the Restless, with the pair set to officially begin their new roles next week.
The cast and crew have already been informed of the creative shakeup, signaling that the transition is already underway behind the scenes.
Jamey Giddens Brings Experience Across Multiple Soaps
Giddens joins Y&R after serving as a writer on Beyond the Gates, CBS' newest daytime drama. Before that, he was part of the writing teams for Days of our Lives and the streaming spinoff, Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem. His resume includes both Writers Guild of America and Daytime Emmy wins, and he's currently nominated for two 2026 Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing Team for a Daytime Drama Series thanks to his work on both Beyond the Gates and Days of our Lives.

Dan O'Connor Makes the Move From General Hospital
O'Connor brings more than a decade of experience from General Hospital, where he built an impressive résumé after beginning his daytime career as a writers' associate on One Life to Live.
Following that show's cancellation, he joined General Hospital in 2013 and worked his way through several key creative positions, including breakdown writer, associate head writer, and most recently, co-head writer.
Like Giddens, O'Connor is also a Writers Guild of America and Daytime Emmy Award winner.
A New Direction for Genoa City
With Griffith's departure, many viewers have been wondering who would guide the future of The Young and the Restless. Now they have their answer.
The pairing of Giddens and O'Connor combines experience from several of daytime television's biggest soaps, making this one of the most significant behind-the-scenes changes Y&R has seen in years.
Whether longtime storylines continue on their current path or Genoa City gets a fresh creative reset remains to be seen, but fans won't have to wait long. The new co-head writers officially take over next week as the next chapter of The Young and the Restless begins.
What do you think of CBS' decision? Are Jamey Giddens and Dan O'Connor the right team to lead The Young and the Restless into its next era?
