The Young and the Restless star, Jermaine Rivers, who currently plays Damain Kane, isn’t holding back when it comes to calling out today’s soap audiences.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the actor delivered a raw and unfiltered message aimed at what he describes as "so-called soap fans" who seem more focused on tearing down shows than celebrating them.
"I’m convinced that most (not all) of today’s so-called soap fans are far removed from the sweet old ladies who watched it back in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. The internet has created some straight savages who are mean-spirited and tune in just to complain about the shows they watch."
The star went on to question why viewers seem to approach soaps with such negativity these days:
"What happened to watching soaps for the love of it? Why are y’all so mad, hateful and triggered for 🧐?"
The post has sparked a passionate debate among longtime fans and newer viewers alike. Some agree, feeling nostalgia for the days when fans watched simply for the love of the stories and characters, while others believe that open critique is part of being an engaged, invested audience.
