Y&R’s Melissa Ordway Speaks Out: Can Abby Ever Forgive Mariah?

With Dominic finally reunited with his parents and Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) facing the consequences of her actions, the emotional fallout is just beginning on The Young and the Restless. Now, Melissa Ordway is weighing in on whether Abby can ever truly forgive Mariah for taking her son.

Y&R’s Melissa Ordway Speaks Out: Can Abby Ever Forgive Mariah?

In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Ordway opened up about Abby’s state of mind and the complicated mix of anger, heartbreak, and understanding she’s wrestling with.

“Anything Is Possible in Genoa City”

When asked if Abby could eventually forgive Mariah, Ordway didn’t shut the door completely. “Anything is possible in Genoa City,” she said with a laugh. “I’m not going to say no, because it’s definitely possible…”But as a mother herself, Ordway admitted forgiveness would not come easily. “As a mom myself, it would be really hard for me to forgive someone that took my kid,” she shared, referencing her own daughters, Olivia and Sophie. “And the things that [Mariah said] to him…”For Abby, the betrayal cuts especially deep — not just because Dominic was taken, but because of Mariah’s intentions.

It Was the Plan That Hurt the Most

According to Ordway, what truly devastates Abby isn’t only the act of running away with Dominic — it’s the idea that Mariah planned to replace her.

“I think what’s actually more upsetting to Abby than even her taking him is the intention behind it — of running away forever and being his new mom,” Ordway explained. “I mean, that would be very hard to get over.”

That intention changes everything. It wasn’t a temporary lapse in judgment. It was a full-blown plan to create a new life — without Abby.

Compassion vs. Consequences

Still, Abby isn’t blind to Mariah’s fragile mental state. She understands that something wasn’t right.

“As long as she gets the correct help that she needs,” Ordway added. “Because I know Abby does understand that she’s not in the right mental state.”

And that’s where the emotional conflict lies.

“It’s hard, because you want to forgive someone because it’s like, ‘Oh, they’re not well right now. It’s not the Mariah that I know.’ But then, at the same time, it still happened. So how do you get past it? It’s very complicated.”

A Long Road Ahead

Forgiveness in Genoa City is never simple — especially when a child is involved. While Abby may someday find a path toward reconciliation, it won’t happen overnight. Healing will require accountability, treatment, and time.

For now, Abby is left balancing compassion with the very real trauma of what happened. And as Ordway makes clear, that emotional struggle is only just beginning.
